Diana Nyad Raises The Bar on Goal Setting

Okay, if this story doesn’t beat all, I don’t know what does.  On September 2nd 2013, 64 year old Diana Nyad became the first person to successfully swim the Florida strait stretching 110 miles from Cuba to Key West.  It was her fifth attempt at completing the feat which took 53 hours to complete.

More astonishingly, she has tried on various occasions for the last 35 years to do this!  On top of that, she made the journey without the aid of flippers or the protection of a shark cage.  I must say, she sure looked worn out as she walked ashore in the United States.

After hearing of this extraordinary tale, I thought to myself “no more excuses.” I find myself thinking over and over, “64 years old and 35 years in the making.”  What an inspiration for mankind this woman is!  Preaching the mantra of “find a way,”  Diana Nyad serves as a standard to follow when it comes to pursuing whatever it is in life that one would hope to achieve.  “Find a way,” now those are powerful words and I hear them reverberating in my mind each and every day.

Diana Nyad’s achievement gives us all reason to think about what it is that we truly want and “find a way” to attain it.  I will say it again, 64 years old and a story 35 years in the making!  It just goes to show that it is never too late to pursue your life ambitions.  Thank you Diana for giving us all an example to follow whenever we get presented with so called obstacles as well as a source of inner strength so that each of us may “find a way.”  Our lives are all the much better as a result of your truly amazing accomplishment.

Flying lessons, here I come!
